A couple of weeks ago I received two calls back to back from local businesses requesting baskets of Bittersweets to showcase in their employee lounge. The businesses making those requests, my bank and dentist office. After the requests came in I got to thinking... That's not a bad idea! I even asked myself, why haven't I considered this before? Fact is, I have, but kind of blew it off.
As I pondered those thoughts new idees began to flow. I thought...
This concept of home parties and companies like Tupperware and Avon probably began with a humble beginning and although this idea is not a new one, I do believe it to be an improved unique form of marketing. Kind of a modern more savvy technique and a good fit for 2012. Great alternative for not offering your wares wholesale too!
Although I'm not a fan of network marketing, the idee of hosting or offering a Bittersweet basket filled with our product, or in Bittersweets case, a "soap box" seems pleasing and proper. An opportunity to exchange services with the many businesses I've been a patron of for many years.
Some business, like my bank, are restricted and must follow corporate guidelines. Since the products are being offered in the employee lounge however most legal restrictions don't apply. Most often, it's up to the manager of the business to make that decision and each branch manager or franchise owner has authority to make these kind of decisions. Having been in corporate managment offers me the low down on how things work.
In this day of economic woes I believe this business of exchanging business is not only cost effective and practical but effective and marketing foxy.
This is what I came up with...
The box is sturdy and ideal in size to house the perfect number of Bittersweets. The boxes are kind of neat. They are usually found to carry bolts and parts otherwise known as part bins. You can explore and find them here. You will be required to have a resale license to purchase the boxes.
It's important to remember to keep things simple when developing your product kits.
For instance, I made small order forms and included instructions on the form. Every order or item taken from the box must accompany an order form along with payment. I included a muslin pouch to house both order forms and payments. A price list including all items in the kit. Samples so that they can try before they buy. I also created a brochure that explains my company and the products I make, making sure to include web site, studio hours, phone number, etc. I stuck in some small merchandise bags too. Lastly, make sure you have an inventory of items left at each business. Oh and tax. I typed the current tax rate on the order form.
I customized our boxes by placing a label across the front with logo. Important.
I measured the front area, 2x8 I believe and created a label in that size with logo.
I delivered a couple "soap boxes" yesterday and before I got back home the phone was ringing with orders! Yeah, good beginning.
The touchy, fee ly, aromatic box also serves as a great marketing tool as it awakens folks to know about my local Bittersweet shop and web site.
You have it! The secret concept...
Working on a few other secret projects now and making lots of soap!
Enjoy caring and sharing days.
Warmly,
Jill 00 (two hugs are better than one)
