Our weather turned back to winter this past week. No worries, because I know it will transform into spring soon.
In between, I've been adding flowers on my grocery list so that we can at least have a touch of spring inside the apothecary shop.
Once the weather pops back, we'll be introducing more of our spring bittersweets.
We made a large bowl of potato salad awhile ago. I've tried oodles of potato salad recipes, and really feel this one is probably one of the best recipes. Simple ingredients. Probably the most important thing to do when making it, is extra salt when you boil the spuds.
I'm also really wanting to make corn beef from a fresh brisket. Have you ever done that? It takes about six days curing before it's transforms into corn beef. I've heard it taste amazing.
This is the recipe I'm considering. Not difficult, just need extra time to cure the meat. I've got to try it. Flat cut brisket, trim any fat. One thing I'm not fond of about the ready made corn beefs is the amount of salt and fat. Thinking this method would eliminate that.
No matter what the subject, I always turn towards food.
We have a little organic store that I really like. One of the reasons I prefer it over other natural grocery stores is the quality of items they place on their shelves. You know what I mean. Sometimes it seems the natural grocery stores are stocked with anything but natural. I also, even though it's small, their produce department. They have unique produce that is fresh and tasty. You really have to read the labels and do your homework before you do your grocery shopping nowadays. It's a full time job to research your food. Ugh...
I've been eliminating certain foods from our diet on the grounds that they're not good for you. No pun intended.
Coffee...Once cup will do ya.
I won't go into the science of it, but coffee is a huge offender, right up there with sugar. Yes, their are pro's too, but the con's kind of out way the pro's.
Having said that, I do have one cup almost every day. I only purchase organic and I prefer it black and dark. I bake with sugar all the time and enjoy it. I do know though that neither is good for my body. Darn!
Everything in moderation seems to be my preferred method.
How in the heck did I get off on the subject of this?
Very rarely do I get caught up around here. This week, if only for a few days, catching up has caught up with me. It doesn't happen often nowadays, and when it happens I almost feel lost and don't know what to do with myself. The things that need to be tended to, I'm not really overly excited to do. I keep putting them off. Taxes, come to mind first. We have a pile of receipts and invoices piled high on our dining room table along with a calculator that prints a running tape. Taxes! Need I say more?
Then there's the studio that is almost finished, but a few things here and there that really could use my attention. Nope. Don't want to, you can't make me!
Once the weather warms and the sun pops back out I really just want to be outside enjoying the simple things of life.
I'm Scottish, but wish you a Happy St. Patrick's day.
Good thoughts swarm...
