If you're like me and love browsing pretty papers, then I have no doubt you will enjoy making these.
This is my favorite summer craft project for 2012!
You may remember last summers craft adventure making lined envelopes.
Simple and quick to make and delightful to have around in your studio.
You will need.
- Glue
- Pretty paper of your choice and size
- rick-rack scissors
- regular scissors
You may wish to have a brown paper bag around as a template or guide so that you will know where to make folds in the bag. Not necessary, but a helpful tool.
Also start with a piece of paper you're not fond. I found after making the first one, the second was much easier. In other words, no bad cuts or folds.
I used 8.5 x 11 size sheets of paper from a sampler pack but you can make your bag from just about anything. Including newspaper, wall paper, wrapping paper, etc.
On a flat surface turn the paper so that the back is facing you. Fold right side over approximately 2 inches and then fold left side of paper to over lap the right side, I'd say 1/2 inch or so. Don't cut or glue, just fold.
With your middle of your bag folded, fold bottom towards top of bag approximately 1/2 inch. You will need to reinforce folds each time.
You should now have made three folds, right?
Now the top. You're almost done! Unfold the paper completely and with your rick-rack scissors cut across the top of the paper making sure to cut a straight line.
Fold fresh cut once again to form your line and cut down 1/2 inch or less with regular scissors. Continue cutting along folded line below rick-rack cut.
Glue along all folds, including bottom fold both on back of bag and in between the folded pieces.
You now have a custom paper bag. They should look something like these.
